The Most Complete Starter Kit with Hgh Quality Components and Tutorial
Quantity and quality are both important here in ELELGOO UNO R3 starter kit. The most essential parts in this kit are UNO R3 controller board and expansion board, which is a perfect clone with excellent product finish compatible with Arduino projects.
Besides, we offer other over 60 kinds of components and sensors from small parts like LED diodes, resistors and potentiometer to big parts like LCD1602, RFID module and 830 tie-points breadboard, which meet your demands for your different projects either it is simple or complex.
Sturdy quality is definitely the most important thing to ELEGOO even with so many components provided we never compromised on the quality. Instead we keep improving our product quality in our own factory and we produce the products by ourselves under high standards and strict quality control. Pins and wires on some of the parts like LCD16502 and motors have been pre-soldered which is very convenient and saves your time.
74HC595 Shift Register and LEDs
74HC595 is a Serial to Parallel Converter which has eight outputs (perfect) and three inputs that you use to feed data into it a bit at a time. This chip makes it a little slower to drive the LEDs (you can only change the LEDs about 500,000 times a second instead of 8,000,000 a second) but it's still really fast, way faster than humans can detect, so it's worth it!
74HC595 shift register is a type of chip that holds what can be thought of as eight memory locations, each of which can either be a 1 or a 0. To set each of these values on or off, we feed in the data using the 'Data' and 'Clock' pins of the chip.
LCD1602 Display module
LCD1602 module is a display that has an LED backlight and can display two rows with up to 16 characters on each row. You can see the rectangles for each character on the display and the pixels that make up each character. The display is just white on blue and is intended for showing text.
Lining up the display with the top of the breadboard helps to identify its pins without too much counting, especially if the breadboard has its rows numbered with row 1 as the top row of the board. Do not forget, the long yellow lead that links the slider of the pot to pin 3 of the display. The 'pot' is used to control the contrast of the display.
DC Motors and L293D Transistor
In this project you will learn how to control a small DC motor using an UNO R3 and a L293D transistor, which is a very useful chip. It can actually control two motors independently. We are just using half the chip in this lesson, most of the pins on the right hand side of the chip are for controlling a second motor.
L293D is quadruple high-current half-H drivers and designed to provide bidirectional drive currents of up to 1 A at voltages from 4.5 V to 36 V. The L293D is also designed to provide bidirectional drive currents of up to 600-mA at voltages from 4.5 V to 36 V and drive inductive loads such as relays, solenoids, dc and bipolar stepping motors, as well as other high-current/high-voltage loads in positive-supply applications.

- Reviewed in Canada on January 7, 2026Verified PurchaseThis is a perfect starter kit for anyone seeking to understand electronics concepts and gain practical, working knowledge. The kit contains loads of applicable projects that teach while the user does! Clear and simple instructions included. I have a grandson who is interested in delving into this fascinating world and this kit meets the project and hands on objectives perfectly!!
- Reviewed in Canada on January 5, 2026Verified PurchaseReally good starter kit. A lot of components are provided and so far they all work.
- Reviewed in Canada on January 12, 2026Verified PurchaseThis kit is amazing. Much better than the official Arduino kits because of the extra goodies that are included like sensors and wiring. Already great at the regular price but sales happen often so just wait for those!
- Reviewed in Canada on December 16, 2022Verified Purchase****On behalf of all the colorblind people, THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for labeling the resistors!!! Small little bands of colors on blue(?) background don't help me at all. Thank you for stamping the values on the band!****
I saw a couple of different kits popping up as ads and thought it would be an interesting winter activity for me when the weather was bad. After a bit of comparing, I settled of this kit and have been very happy in my purchase.
Starting from nothing, it was a little confusing how to get started. The instructions where on a CD which gave me trouble (I think there was a smudge on it which wasn't readable until it was cleaned). They I had to try download Arduino, a new program I knew nothing about. Then I had to connect the board to the computer and use the new program to download libraries and all in all I was very confused in the beginning.
I pressed on and eventually got it though. The projects they have you doing are very basic, but well written and with the pictures, it is easy to understand how to build them. The programing aspect has continued taking a little extra effort, but it feels very satisfying when you get it working. And then your mind starts thinking: how to I make the LED blink quicker, how do I add another LED, how do I alternate flashing LEDs. Before you know it, you've finished all the lessons and are eager for more!
Searching online I've found a few new projects to try using components from the kit which has been fun. My only wish was there was a second project book. The given one is great for beginners. But now I want one that is a little more advanced and teaches you how to combine projects.
One warning: this kits costs A LOT more than what it lists it as. At least judging by the 400$ worth of OLED screens, PCB boards, ESP32 starter kit, WS2812b LED strips, 8x32 color matrix, cameras, solder iron, and other things that have ended up in my shopping cart after buying this kit haha :D

- Reviewed in Canada on October 15, 2023Verified PurchaseI am retired now and like to keep busy, so I thought I would try to figure out Arduino. What an absolute blast.
I have zero training or background in electronics and was really starting from scratch. I watched tons of videos on youtube, read everything I could and built all of the test projects in the kit. Now I think I have a pretty good understanding of basic electronics, including circuits, capacitors, resistors, leds, digital displays and a ton more.
I think I am ready to tackle larger projects now, and I have been looking into the whole Raspberry Pi ecosystem as well. Who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks?
This stuff is great for retirees like me looking for interesting projects to keep my mind engaged, and I would highly recommend parents get their kids into this stuff as it can help them prepare them for STEM educations and careers.
In fact, get your kids into Lego and Arduino, and they can pretty much build anything on the planet...
Let's teach kids to make things again, instead of mindlessly scrolling through social media and video games.
- Reviewed in Canada on March 23, 2017Verified PurchaseI bought as a complete newbie to Arduino and related things. Great starter kit. However, should link to some more information in regards to programming basics. Altogether though was very impressed by the variety of electronics that come with this kit, and there is so much learning that one can do with what's here! Would maybe recommend getting a arduino for dummies book as well or something if you don't feel like doing tons of google research on how to use arduino code to make things happen. I'm having great enjoyment learning electronics with the arduino, and this has been a great kit to get started with!
Also, it's worth noting what DOES come with the kit (involving tutorial/documentation) -- a description of each sensor/motor, electronic component, as well as a tutorial/real life hookup examples and steps you through how to connect it, and includes pre-made example sketches(code) that you can immediately upload to your board. I would recommend experimenting with modifying and changing each sketch as you go through them. Also, the CD that comes wiith the kit is kind of unnecessary, because elegoo has an updated version of all their (very helpful and impressive) example codes as well as 220pg tutorial PDF for download which is specific to this kit. I was very happy about that.
Be prepared to do a lot of googling for supplementary information and additional questions you will have when you're getting started with Arduino, however this kit is an excellent buy for someone who is just getting started with Arduino and electronics.
- Reviewed in Canada on March 1, 2026Verified PurchaseGreat beginner kit. I bought this for my son and he and I have been working through the projects. ELEGOO has their own project book available on their website to use with this kit. Very clear instructions and teaches the concepts of the different components well. Great way to learn electronics and microcontrollers.
